Fabric scraps, like moss, often begin as something overlooked. They lie forgotten, pressed under the weight of years—cast aside, like stones weathered and left behind. No longer part of something whole. No longer wanted. Just waste in the eyes of the world.
But moss teaches us something essential: That even on the hardest, most lifeless surfaces, life returns. It takes time. It takes moisture. It takes patience. But eventually, the green creeps in—softening, coloring, transforming.
Your artwork mirrors that quiet revolution. It takes
what has been discarded—scraps, threads, fragments of color—and gives them a new language. No longer silent, no longer invisible. They become vibrant, alive—stitched into a form that challenges the narrative of waste. Just as moss reclaims stone with grace and softness, your art reclaims discarded fabric with imagination and intention.
It’s not just sustainability—it’s resilience in action. A refusal to accept the label “useless”. A transformation of forgotten matter into something sacred, textured, and full of life.
This piece reflects the devastating impact of pollution on marine life. To keep the artwork visually engaging, I’ve
experimented with a vibrant color palette—but beneath the color lies a deeper message. I’ve used discarded materials like cloth scraps, buttons, ropes, and metal pins to represent the non-Biodegradable waste we carelessly throw into rivers and oceans.
Each thread in the piece symbolizes the entanglement and obstruction that underwater creatures face because of our waste. At the heart of the artwork is a turtle—one of the gentlest beings in the ocean—depicted in distress. It represents countless innocent lives that suffer silently due to our actions.
Through this handcrafted piece, I hope to highlight how even the smallest items we discard can have profound and irreversible consequences on the underwater world.
